Strayer Intro to Part Six, Chapter 20


1914-2015 We are now entering a century in which I am most familiar. The people and events are not obscure or hard to relate to because this is the century in which we live and have familiarized ourselves with. Our grandparents remember almost the entirety of this century. We know the presidents, the terrorists, the movements, the social setting of this chapter because it is so recent that we have taken for granted all we know about these years. Some of the events that have unfolded in the 1900s are still current events. This is real, it is where we are as a species and the things that happen are tangible and fresh and still have scars on those who have survived through it all.

Collapse at the Center- World war, Depression, and the Rebalancing of Global Power (1914-1970s)

Great War ( World War I)- WWI was basically Germany's fault and those fuckers were apparently still angry because they came back with a  vengeance

World communism-This failed horribly, everyone is terrified of communism now and if you are accused of being a communist you can be kicked out of the US or so it was in the 50s

Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, United States enters World war I-Oh shit now  you've done it

Treaty of Versailles ends WWI, Nazi party founded- I told you they'd be back now we have fucking nazis to deal with

Treaty of Sevres, Ottoman Empire dissolved- the final straw in a long decline after centuries of a tall and proud Empire. The Old Sick Man of Africa has died

Mussolini comes to power in Italy-Let me tell you a thing about this fucker. He is a fascist and if you don't know what a fascist is it's a dickhead who's so proud of his country that he needs to purify and mobilize it by fucking with everyone else on the planet

Great Depression-Shit was sad. Economic depression=no money=everyone is sad all the time

Hitler assumes power in Germany= Here we fucking go what did I tell you, this guy is a real asshole if I've ever seen one

Japan invades China, beginning WWII in Asia, Rape of Nanjing-More awful shit
Germany invades Poland, beginning WWII in Europe- Now they've really fucking done it shit is crazy

WWII, the Holocaust- WE all know how terrible this shit is
Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor- "Yall mfs gonna feel my wrath"- United States

Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, United Nations created- How do you like me now

US occupation in Japan- We basically rocked their whole world

Cold War-We landed on the fucking moon. russian spies and shit aint got nothing on us hahahaha sorry USSR not today

European Union-Still really important. Ask Trump

The modern era is a humanistic era Humanistic statues, realistic and studied In paintings subjects are people, ordinary people developed perspective philosophy ,questioning, human agency, democracy all developed in mass in the modern era Was the renaissance a good development? yes because technological and social progress, we live in america, we are a product of the renaissance no because the changes were forced, created a hierarchy, mass genocide and devastated ecosystems no pro outweighs/justifies the cons of colonizing the americas
